Dear Friends:

For 28 years, the Howard County Autism Society (HCAS) has provided support for individuals with autism throughout the lifespan, their families and community, working to make the world a more accepting and inclusive place for all. Through the many challenges of the past year, HCAS strived to serve its community in a way that was thoughtful, inspiring and, well, fun!

That’s why we have created an event truly designed for the times:  Bags & Beers! A Very 2021 Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, June 26, 2021 in West Friendship, MD.

Why cornhole?! It’s a game that can be played in a safe*, outdoor setting by players of all skill levels.  It encourages team spirit, friendly competition, and camaraderie … things we have all been missing. Best of all, it’s a way for enthusiastic, forward-thinking businesses, organizations, and community members to show their support for the autism community.

Become a sponsor today! You’ll be helping us keep HCAS programs and services strong, and every penny raised benefits autistic individuals and their families in our area.

Last year, as part of our Covid-19 response, HCAS served over 5,000 individuals, families, and professionals with:

- 79 workshops, support groups, and trainings for 690 attendees
- 134 individuals and family members served by our Family Navigator
- 195 one-to-one special education consultations with families
- 200 social events for more than 1700 attendees – most of them virtually!
- $13,000 in emergency and respite grants
- 63,000 social media and website visitors
- 120,000+ community touchpoints!

Rates of autism diagnosis in the United States are now 1 in 54.  Here in Maryland, that rate is 1 in 52 and Howard County has the highest per capita incidence of autism in the state as families relocate here to access the wonderful services and resources.

As these numbers grow, HCAS will continue to provide a community for these individuals, their families, and friends as they navigate the intricacies of life with autism.

We hope to see you on June 26!

Warm regards,

Donald M. Barrick, Board Member & Event Chair
