Dear Friends,

Here at the Autism Society of Maryland (AUSOM), we serve the entire community. From an individual with Autism who requires 24/7 support services from caregivers to an Autistic adult living a fully independent life, no experience is the same. Our mission is to connect and empower Autistic people, their loved ones, and a network of supporters to the resources and services they need when they need them. With your help, we are creating a space where our community comes to be supported, accepted and included!  

Help us keep our AUSOM programs and services strong by supporting our 2024 Bags and Beers Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Reckless Shepherd Brewing Company in Columbia, MD. All proceeds raised benefit Autistic individuals and their families in our area.

Why cornhole you ask?! It’s a game that can be played inside or outside by players of all skill levels. It encourages team spirit, friendly competition, and camaraderie. Best of all, it’s a way for enthusiastic, forward-thinking businesses, organizations, and community members to show their support for the Autism community! 

Last year AUSOM expanded its service footprint to serve Howard, Montgomery and Anne Arundel Counties, continuing to offer the services and programming that are the very heart of the organization. During 2023 alone we served over 8,000 Autistic people, their family members, professionals and the greater community with:  

• 28 Support Group Meetings for 245 attendees  
• 89 Social & Fitness Events for over 1,000 members of the community
• 1,000+ responses to requests for information, referral and special education guidance
• A growing staff of resource coordinators and bilingual resources
• All programs and support provided at NO COST to the community!  

AUSOM continues to break down barriers and open doors with innovative initiatives like the Autism Hiring Program, Patuxent Commons Housing Project, 911 Address Flagging Program, AAC Communication Boards in public spaces, and our Vaccine Education Initiative.  

The rate of Autism diagnosis in the United States is now 1 in 36 and, in Maryland, 1 in 43. As we begin our fourth decade of service, we renew our commitment to the Autism community and thank you for doing the same with your generous support!
