Description
Update:
Lisa has found hope in a Facebook support group for CSF leakers. She even found a local leaker Sanela Vatres who has been suffering since February with with a spontaneous leak. Sanela had surgery one day after Lisa on June 2nd. Sanela also has been unable to work and has extensive medical bills. She too had to travel out of state for care and surgery. The race will now include support for Sanela and Lisa as they battle this monster together!
Lisa has been suffering from a spinal fluid leak since December 12th. During the past 167 days she has had debilitating symptoms that have left her bedridden most of the time. She has had an occasional good day , even a good week in March, but they are short lived. When you leak CSF your brain does not have enough fluid around it to float in your skull. The brain sags against the skull sitting on the skull and nerves. This causes extreme headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, confusion, ringing in the ears, muffled hearing and a few other symptoms she wanted me to leave out. She has seen several specialists ,has had 3 blood patches, 2 Myelogram’s, steroid infusions, countless medications, too many imaging studies to count, strict bed rest and recently suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage from the last blood patch that has added additional problems. None of the treatments have been successful. She has been horizontal for over 5 months.Lisa is currently at the Mayo Clinic in AZ and they are referring her to Cedars-Sinai in California to see a CSF expert for surgery to hopefully finally repair her leak. Medical bills are mounting and Lisa has been unable to work since December. Lisa has always loved to run and I know she would be uplifted to see the faces of all of her friends and family supporting her while they run FOR her because she can’t.
