Description
Hi, My name is Harley Bear and here is my story, I am a mascot bear who decided to go out for an adventure. I was sitting by myself one day and decided now was my chance, all the Job's Daughters (or Jobies) were paying attention to their lunch and desserts so I found a friend to take me on my first adventure of many “Most Excellent Adventures.” During one of my “Most Excellent Adventures,” I learned about an awesome program in Job’s Daughters called The HIKE (Hearing Improvement Kids Endowment) Fund, Inc. HIKE raises money to give grants to children for hearing aids and other assistive hearing devices. What a cool charity! I decided that I wanted to find ways to help raise money for this program too. My mum gave me a jar and I started by collecting change when I went to Masonic events and Jobie meetings with her. Then, she had a great idea. She helped me sponsor a series of Virtual races for HIKE, and she even named it after me. It was called Harley’s 35K Challenge and it involved participating in three 10K virtual events and a 5K virtual event. I participated with my mum, and we had a great time completing all 4 races together. I was so proud of everyone else who participated, and together we were able to raise a lot of money for HIKE. I told her I wanted to keep helping HIKE and so this year, we have planned a 10K event for the month of October. I am super excited and hope a lot of people will support our event so we can help more children have the hearing devices they need! Thank you for helping kids with the gift of hearing! ###
Harley invites all walkers, runners, cyclists, or broom riders to join the fun in October for his annual Harley's Halloween Virtual 10K for HIKE! His goal is to raise $1,000 for HIKE in the month of October. The Hearing Improvement Kids Endowment (HIKE) Fund, Inc. is the sole philanthropy of Job's Daughters International (https://thehikefund.org/). A virtual race is a race that can be run (cycled or walked) from any location you choose. You can cycle, run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym or on the track. You get to run your own race, at your own pace in one day or break it up and do small bits throughout the month of October. Stay mindful of physical distancing and proper mask and handwashing in public spaces that may be crowded for recreation and fitness. Anyone who wants to participate must register. The cost is $18 (no medal) and $22 (with race medal). This year we will have a fun prize for the person who lives the farthest away from Harley. All Jobies who participate can receive credit toward their designated totals for the $1,000 Club.
