IHSAA Foundation Questions

17. I know the IHSAA supervises all the activities related to high school sports in Indiana, but I don’t know anything about the IHSAA Foundation. How do the two organizations differ?
Instead of managing 22 state tournaments every year and dealing with issues like rules compliance, by-law changes, and eligibility questions, the mission of the IHSAA Foundation is to fund programs that promote the personal growth  leadership, and character development of student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators.

18. Tell me about one of those programs.
The InSideOut Initiative is a great example. Its goal is to encourage high school coaches and student-athletes to think about high school sports in a more meaningful, visionary way. Instead of sports being solely about winning and losing, the ISOI puts the emphasis on developing inspired, positive, and empathetic leaders.

19. What’s the ultimate goal?
Today’s student-athletes are tomorrow’s doctors, lawyers, educators, factory workers, and business owners. They will soon be the decision-makers who determine the destiny of our state. When you look at the programs funded by the IHSAA Foundation with this perspective, it explains why a contribution to the Foundation is one of the most important investments a person can make. Our programs focus on the life lessons learned outside of the classroom, such as working together as a team and overcoming adversity along many others.

20. Is the InSideOut Initiative actually being implemented in any schools?
You bet it is! More than 51,000 student athletes enrolled in 105 Indiana high schools are currently benefitting from this program. As the Foundation’s resources continue to grow, more schools will be served. And other programs with similar goals will be launched.

21. How does this run support my local school/organization?
Money from each registration will go into the general athletic fund for your chosen school/organization. It is then up to the school/organization to use however they see fit. This is a great fundraiser to make up for lost opportunities due to COVID to help your school and teams!
