The El Grito 5K course runs along 26th Street, Chicago's second magnificent mile, in the culturally rich Mexican neighborhood of Little Village. The race will precede the 50th annual Mexican Independence Day Parade. 
We invite runners of all fitness levels to participate in this event!


Adult Registration Fees (18+)

  • May Registration: $20
  • June Registration: $25
  • July Registration: $30
  • August Registration: $35
  • Last Call (September 1 - September 7): $40
  • Race Day Registration (September 8 | 7am-9am): $50

Youth Registration Fees (17 & Under)

  • May 1 - September 7: $15
  • Race Day Registration (September 8 | 7am-9am): $25

  • In-Person Registration (June 26 - September 7): $60
  • Race Day Registration (September 8 | 7am-9am): $ 75

Team Pricing (Minimum of 10 people) 

  • Adult price (until 9/7/2019) - $20
  • Youth price (until 9/7/2019 - $15
The first 10 participants to sign up on the team will sign up at the current registration price, once the 10th person joins, each of the 10 participants will be refunded the appropriate amount so that the final price paid is $20 per adult (e.g. if you sign up in July, the regular price for an adult is $30 so the first 10 participants will be charged $30, then when the 10th person signs up, the first 10 people that paid $30 will be refunded $10). Any team member after that 10th member will be registering at $20.

Fundraiser for Youth Sports Programming in Little Village
100% of the proceeds from the El Grito 5K go directly towards funding New Life Centers programming that supports youth and families in Little Village. Through our programs we aim to connect youth and young adults to Christ and community through mentoring, education and sports. The El Grito 5k Run/Walk is presented in partnership with New Life Centers and the Little Village Chamber of Commerce.

The 2018 El Grito 5K will start and finish at the Manuel Perez Jr. Plaza (4345 W 26th St, Chicago, IL 60623), running the same route as the Mexican Independence Day Parade that follows the 5K!


Race Course
Participants run/walk down 26th Street just past Kedzie Ave on the south side of the street and return to Kostner Ave on the north side of the street. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to race down the most famous street in Little Village!


Packet Pickup
We recommend that you pick up your packet before race day! Please go to New Life Centers at 2657 S Lawndale Ave on either September 6th from 3:00pm-7:00pm or September 7th from 9:00am-12:00pm. If you are unable to make either of these dates then please pick up your packet on race day at the Manuel Perez Jr. Plaza starting at 8:00am on Sunday, September 8th.

After crossing the finish line go to the Manuel Perez Jr. plaza to enjoy the awards ceremony, music and TAMALES! 
Participants will receive a medal as they cross the finish line! (while supplies last)
Race results will be displayed at the Post Race Celebration,  El Grito Facebook page and race registration website.
Please arrive early to find parking! Parking will be limited as many streets are closed for the race and Mexican Independence Day Parade. Kostner Avenue will be a tow zone area on race day. We recommend finding parking on a nearby side streets. Ogden Avenue is also a good option just north of 26th street.
Gear Check & Strollers
Gear check will be available near the packet pickup and registration tents. Strollers are allowed! We ask that runners/walkers with strollers start at the back of the line in order to ensure the safety of all participants.
