2021 Race Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs and some things to be aware as you make your decision of whether or not to participate in the Tremont Triathlon. The planning for this event is subject to potential governmental restrictions and the ability to provide a safe environment for the participants and the volunteers. The Tremont Triathlon is 100% volunteer run and all profits are donated to the Tremont Area Park District to support the pool and the programs for the local community.

-What happened to the Dirty and Dusty challenges?

Answer: This year we are not offering the challenges (Dirty & Dusty) to keep the race less complicated with the other unknowns. We expect to bring them back in future years.

-Are you going to cancel again like you did in 2020 and will I get a refund if you cancel?

Answer: The race may be cancelled or modified for restrictions outside of the race organizer’s control. If the race must be cancelled or modified, there are no refunds promised or guaranteed. With that in mind, the race organizers will make every attempt to refund as much as possible to each registrant after covering costs which have been incurred and cannot be reversed.

-What about spectators?

Answer: At this point in time, we are recommending spectators stay at home and allow the race location to be less congested and allow for better social distancing for participants and volunteers. Speaking of volunteers, we expect it may be difficult to find volunteers this year, a good way for someone to be able to spectate but not take away from social distancing is for them to elect to volunteer. Many times volunteers are able to see key parts of the race. This would help in crowd control and ensuring the race is adequately staffed for your safety.

-Who can enter the bike transition area?

Answer: Only race participants will be allowed into the bike transition area. If there are small children (specifically for the Mini race) which need assistance, no more than 1 adult may enter the transition with the child to help with set up prior to and pick up after the race. There is no assistance during the race transitions allowed!

-What if pools are not allowed to open, will the race still happen?

Answer: If swimming pools are not allowed to open, our Triathlon will be converted to a duathlon. Courses and changes will be made public once we are aware that we have to invoke that option. There will still be both Sprint and Mini distances available.

-What other changes are you considering?

Answer: While we cannot predict everything, here are a few items in discussion or already implemented.

--The swim for the sprint distance is a 400 yard distance where the participant has ½ of a lane to complete the race. If social distancing makes it unsafe for our swim count volunteers, we may be forced to change the swim to a 300 yard serpentine swim. We will notify race participants as soon as possible.

--To ensure social distancing, we are opening registration with a lowered cap on participants. Currently we are projecting 160 bibs for the Sprint distance and 40 bibs for the Mini. These numbers are subject to change (shift between races, increase or decrease) as the race organizer’s see fit to ensure the maximum number of participants while keeping appropriate social distancing requirements. The maximum bib numbers in years past has been approximately 325, while unlikely, it would be our desire to allow that many participants this year if pandemic response measures allow.
