During the Civil Rights march of 1965, activists gathered in Selma, Alabama to complete a 54-mile trek to the state capital, Montgomery. This year, in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we will commemorate those 54 miles marched by encouraging you and others to continue the same mission. Join us by participating in a virtual march to raise awareness for social injustice in the United States today. Participate by walking, running, or even biking 54 miles from January 1 to January 18, 2021. To make this event even more effective we are providing participants with the opportunity to seek out monetary pledges, all funds collected will be donated to a charity geared toward seeking out social change too! Remember the countless lives lost from the start of slavery to present-day police brutality with every mile and join us in our journey toward positive social change!
100% of funds raised from this event go directly to The Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as well as the Zerah Priestly Carter Scholarship. We encourage you to post on social media, collect pledges, and raise funds while you march! You can send all donations here: www.uealumnionline.com/MLKDay2021
