Dedicated to the memory of Chief Bobby Halton, a cherished supporter of FCSN, the 5 ALARM 5k Run to Remember is a tribute to his enduring commitment and dedication to the firefighter community. Chief Halton served as a friend, mentor, and advocate for FCSN. His personal battle with cancer connected him deeply and motivated his support in assisting firefighters and EMS providers facing a cancer diagnosis.
In Chief Halton’s honor, the Halton family will be is gifting the top fundraiser between October 1 and January 30th conference costs for FDIC 2025 as well as lodging and transportation.
The 5 ALARM 5k Run to Remember holds special significance as it not only pays homage to Chief Halton but also serves as an opportunity to remember and honor firefighters battling cancer, pay tribute to those who have passed, and celebrate those still with us in the firefighting community.
At the 2023 IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial, almost 66% of the names added to the wall were members who died from occupational cancer. In the same year, 72% of Line of Duty deaths among IAFF members were attributed to occupational cancer.
Proceeds directly support FCSN's mission to assist firefighters and EMS providers diagnosed with cancer. The FCSN provides crucial resources, badge-to-badge support, training, and guidance to those facing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
Join us in honoring Chief Bobby Halton's legacy and supporting the FCSN mission by becoming a sponsor or participant in the 5 ALARM 5k Run to Remember or donating to the $5 for 5 Alarm fundraiser. The Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) is proud to host this year’s fourth 5 ALARM 5k Run to Remember which will take place Thursday, April 10th at 6:00pm at the White River State Park, located just a short walk from the Indianapolis convention center. This event is part of the FDIC international convention, is open to everyone, and offers a scenic, flat and fast course that winds around the beautiful Indianapolis Canal.
Our run is dedicated to Chief Bobby Halton, a proud supporter of FCSN, a friend, mentor and advocate and cancer survivor. Cancer is the leading cause of firefighter line-of-duty death. Bobby’s cancer connected him deeply with FCSN and our mission. As a survivor, he understood the challenges, stress, joys, setbacks, and the many ups and downs one faces when fighting cancer. Always wanting to make a difference, he helped our mission by often speaking of the work we do and providing opportunities to our team, many whom have assisted thousands of firefighters through their cancer battle.
The FDIC FCSN 5 Alarm 5K Run to Remember is an opportunity to remember our brothers and sisters in the fire service battling cancer, honor firefighters who’ve lost their battle, and celebrate firefighter cancer survivors. Money raised from the run supports the mission of the FCSN, to assist firefighters and EMS providers and their immediate families diagnosed with cancer by providing badge to badge support, training and guidance. FCSN is the only organization in the world that provides a unique badge-to-badge mentorship for firefighters battling cancer, our one-of-a-kind cancer support toolbox that includes our handbook of resources, The Firefighter’s Guide to Cancer Survivorship, and our nation-wide cancer awareness and prevention program, “Taking Action Against Cancer in the Fire Service”.
The 5 Alarm 5k Run to Remember is your chance to become a sponsor and/or participant and show your commitment to Bobby’s legacy and our cause that is impacting so many of our brothers and sisters and their family members in the fire service. The top fundraiser will be awarded the Bobby Halton Award. Join us and become a sponsor today in honor of Bobby. Together we can honor the memory of this admirable and unforgettable man and his commitment to our mission and our nation’s heroes confronted with a cancer fight.
Sincerely,
