4th Annual Jim Whelan Open Water Festival, featuring the 57th Around The Island® Swim

 

START/FINISH

The 57th Around the Island® Swim will start and finish at the Atlantic City High School Boat House (3401 Fairmount Avenue Atlantic City, NJ 08401). 

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This open water marathon swim follows a course length of 22.75 miles (36.62 km) circumnavigating Absecon Island, NJ and the municipalities of Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate, and Longport.  While we are anticipating a northward/clockwise route, the route may be reversed to go south/counter-clockwise based on conditions the day of the event.  The route will be confirmed at the pre-race safety briefing.  

Starting and finishing at the ACHS Boat House, swimmers will proceed:

Heading North (clockwise)	Heading South (counter-clockwise)
North through various back bays East through the Absecon Channel to the Atlantic Ocean South along the shoreline West through the Great Egg Harbor Inlet North through various back bays * All athletes must reach N. Jackson Avenue in Atlantic City by the 10-hour mark in order to finish the event.  Any athlete not at this point by the 10-hour mark will be pulled from the water by Festival Personnel.	South through various back bays East through the Great Egg Harbor Inlet to the Atlantic Ocean North along the shoreline West through the Absecon Channel South through various back bays * All athletes must reach Bacharach Blvd in Atlantic City by the 10-hour mark in order to finish the event.  Any athlete not at this point by the 10-hour mark will be pulled from the water by Festival Personnel.

 

Currents, tides, and wave conditions can be unpredictable.  Please use good judgement if you are uncertain about swimming in rough water.  Details of the course, complete with egress points, are indicated on the map below and will be reviewed in the pre-race safety meeting for any updates.

 

PARKING

Onsite parking at the ACHS Boat House is extremely limited.  Street parking is available near the ACHS Boat House.  Please lock your car and follow all posted signs for parking regulations.  Festival Staff is not responsible for lost/stolen items, damage to vehicle, or any parking violations.
