Why are we asking for your help?

We hope to raise a total of $7500 through the 2026 Indoor Insanity 5k.

$7500 will:

  • Fix up to 5 Maine homes with radon problems
  • Prevent 5 Maine families from radon-induced lung cancer

You're already a cancer-busting hero:  your registration fee moves us closer to this goal.  But registrations alone won't get us to the finish line.  Please consider setting up a simple fundraising page to support this cause.

Here are the facts:  All of Maine is at high risk for radon.

  • Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless radioactive gas that comes up from the ground and gets trapped inside buildings.
  • Exposure to radon causes lung cancer.
  • Radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.  Only smoking causes more lung cancer than radon.
  • 1 in 3 Maine homes likely has a radon problem.  2 in 3 Maine homes in Cumberland County likely have radon problems.
  • Maine’s average radon level is 392% higher than the nationwide average
  • 310 Mainers contract radon-induced lung cancer each year.
  • 165 Mainers die each year from radon-induced lung cancer
  • Exposure to radon is preventable.

Set up a Fundraising Page

Please consider setting up a dedicated fundraising page, so you can reach out to your family, friends, colleagues, and connections to ask them to support your efforts to support this cause.  Setting up a fundraising page is quick and easy, and you can use your page and this platform to invite people to support you, as well as thank them for their donations.

How can you help?

Your participation in Indoor Insanity is the first step, since 100% of your registration fees will be used to fix radon problems in at least one Maine home.  But registrations alone won't get us over the finish line to meet our $7500 goal for 2026.
