Arctic Valley Run (Draft)

This event is open to the public. You must register here online, but you will pay on race day. Be prepared to pay CASH or CHECK on race day when you check in and pick up your bib.

Bib Pickup is on race day only. It will be located near the start/finish area by the driving range on Arctic Valley Rd.

Early Season Race up Arctic Valley

• Event will take place rain/snow or shine. Please dress appropriately and take into account changing weather conditions from base to summit. Consider packing extra clothes in the event of changing conditions. We will keep everyone informed of conditions at the top of Arctic Valley with start line announcements.
  
  
• Clothing items to consider:
  • Cover your ears and/or head: warm headband or knit hat
  • Cover for your nose and mouth like a neck gator
  • Hands: gloves
  • Warmth: sweat wicking top and leg coverage that allows movement
  • Wind protection: there is potential for strong winds along the route
    
    
• If conditions are really bad at the top, the race may be reduced to the 5-mile course only or cancelled. Alaskan runners are a pretty hearty bunch, but seriously, we don’t want anyone to get hurt or sick. If cancelled, the decision will be postponed as long as possible. In the event of a cancellation, there will be no make-up race. We will do our best to work out a method of prizes to thank people for signing up.}
  
  
• If you shed layers on the way up we will do our best to collect them after the race, but no guarantees. After the race, please email us if you are looking for items left behind.
  
  
• There are occasional sightings of wildlife; please be aware that it is not uncommon for a wondering bear or moose to make their way onto Arctic Valley Road. It is your choice to carry bear spray with you for the race.

Road Conditions

• Arctic Valley Road will not be closed to traffic during this race. All runners are required to be aware of their surroundings. Traffic is typically light on Arctic Valley Road and the road itself is wide but please be mindful of the traffic potential in both directions.
  
  
• Arctic Valley Road is majority gravel, it was graded not too long ago but rainy weather and high winds can deteriorate the road quickly. Washboard and loose rocks are common. Please choose appropriate footwear for off-road running.
