Fun Walk/Run/Ride Participant
Description
Join us in celebrating the founding of The Berkeley Institute!
A Fun Walk/Run/Ride is planned for March 18, starting at 9:30am from “Wantley” on Princess St. and ends at the new Berkeley campus field on Berkeley Hill.
"Proceeds to the new Berkeley Campus"
“Wantley” is where the Founding Fathers conceived the idea of a school for all ages, races and creeds etc. and named it after Bishop George Berkeley.
On Monday, October 6, 1879, the Founding Committee consisted of six men. A second meeting was held three days later on October 9. The original six men were joined by five others. These men met to discuss the possibility of creating a school where black students could get a secondary education. By no means would this school only admit black students. It was intended to be the first integrated secondary school.
The Berkeley Institute is currently situated at the crest of Berkeley Hill at 26 Berkeley Road.
The school was founded in 1897, and moved from the Samaritan's Hall on Court Street and is now located at the crest of Berkeley Hill after 104 at the St. John’s Road site.
The Berkeley Institute is coeducational with a student population of approximately five hundred. The school has many excellent facilities that include five modern science laboratories, a well-equipped family studies department, a spacious art room, and an inviting library.
T-shirts will be given to all participants!
Sorry, but you must use a credit card that will work overseas to pay for any registration
Please do not bring dogs to the Start/Finish Area in the interest of other participants.
