Audubon Center at Debs Park

The Audubon Center at Debs Park inspires people to explore, understand, and care for the natural world in their own communities. Located in Northeast Los Angeles the Center is a unique gathering place for outdoor recreation, environmental education, conservation, and community action.

Our nature-based education and community programs engage children, families, and young adults in the outdoors, helping them build meaningful connections to place and a personal stake in protecting the natural world. Through these experiences, we create opportunities for people to not only enjoy nature, but to become leaders and stewards within their communities.

The Center is operated by Audubon California, a state field program of the National Audubon Society, and plays an important role in Audubon’s efforts to expand access to nature and conservation. The 4 Mile Hill Challenge builds on this work by bringing people together to experience the trails and natural landscapes of Debs Park while directly supporting our FLIGHT (Future Leaders Igniting Greater Habitat Transformation) workforce development program. FLIGHT provides local young adults with hands-on experience in habitat restoration, environmental education, community engagement, and conservation leadership.

First Timers

Race Day Schedule

7:45AM- Bib Pick-up Closes
8:00AM- 4 Mile Hill Challenge Start
9:00AM- 2K Youth Challenge Start

Please Line Up at that starting line no later than 15 min before race start.

2K Youth Challenge
The 2K Youth Challenge at Debs Park is a challenging and rewarding course with a steady 0.8-mile uphill trail and a fun downhill finish. It’s a great adventure for kids, but may be tough for some. The Youth Challenge is set to start at 9:00 AM, but the time is subject to change.

Starting Line Rules
Please leave your fury friends at home! Their presence and scent disrupt the environment and wildlife being protected in the center. Navigate safely through the course as you will be going through narrow steep trails. Slower runners/joggers start just behind the front group, which consist of 5-7 minute per mile runners. Look-out for young children who start with a sprint.
