Environmentally Conscious Race
The Golden Gate Park XC Open will be implementing some actions at this race to help with lessening our negative impact on the environment. Of course, it's up to us all to be conscious and mindful, and be a leader in these efforts. Here are some ways we all can help:
- Race Bib Recycling: Race bibs are made of Tyvek from DuPont, and are a HDPE plastic (not paper). They are recyclable though! However, most communities do not accept this type of plastic in the common, curbside recycling programs. BUT... DuPont provides collection bags, and we'll have some at the Golden Gate Park XC Open! Bring your old bibs, and we'll be collecting them to recycle (along with race day bibs after the race).
- Recyclables in the Recycling; Trash in the Trash: Please help us by putting only trash in the trash receptacle, and only recyclables in the recycling. Such a gross pain sorting it all after the race...
- Minimize Plastic Water Bottles: We will not be providing water in single serve plastic water bottles. Everyone is encouraged to bring and use their own water bottle.
- Safety Pin Reuse: After the race, feel free to return your safety pins, and we'll reuse them for next year. Or, save them yourself and bring to your other races! It seems small, but can make a difference.
If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to contact the race director. Thank you for your efforts in this important endeavor!
