Description
The Wings for Life World Run will take place on May 4, 2014 simultaneously in 37 locations worldwide including Sunrise, FL; Denver, CO; and Santa Clarita, CA. Runners around the world will start together at 10:00 AM UTC (4:00 AM, PST). This global race utilizes a brand new race format where runners are pursued by the finish line. Once a runner is overtaken by the finish line attached to a “catcher car,” his/her race is complete and results will be shown by distance rather than time. This new format ensures that everyone from novice runners to professional ultrarunners is welcome to participate. Most importantly, 100% of entry fees go directly to spinal cord injury research.
The Wings For Life World Run
The Santa Clarita race will begin at 3 AM Pacific Time on Magic Mountain Parkway near the Westfield Valencia Mall. It begins by weaving around the city, traveling through Canyon Country and the Placerita Canyon State Park, eventually heading North towards Copper Hill Road, coming to an end on Highway 126. The Wings for Life World Run will start simultaneously around the World at 3:00 AM PST.
The Catcher Car will begin its pursuit of runners in each race simultaneously around the World 30 minutes after the start (4:00 AM PST).
Runners will reach their individual "finish line" once they are overtaken by the Catcher Car.
A runner's local and global result is determined by the distance they were able to cover before being overtaken by the Catcher Car.
Participants will be divided into Men and Women with winners in both categories. There will not be participant divisions based on age or other similar factors.
All runners must be at least 16 years of age on Race Day.
The man and woman who are able to cover the most distance before being overtaken by the Catcher Car will be the global champions of the Wings for Life World Run.
