Fins, Flippers & Fun 5K Virtual Run/Walk

The 4th annual Fins, Flippers & Fun 5K run/walk will be virtual this year due to the challenges we are all facing with the COVID-19 pandemic. It is still going to be a fun event for a great cause!

This event benefits Channel Islands Marine & Wildlife Institute (www.cimwi.org) which is a nonprofit organization that rescues and rehabilitates marine mammals in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties in Southern California. CIMWI is an all-volunteer operation that relies on public donations to help fund their efforts in saving wildlife. 

Our annual race was scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 17, 2021 so as we go virtual, it would be fun if everyone participating ran or walked their 5 kilometers on that day. However, since we are virtual you can run/walk your own 5K any time before 1/17 starting January 1, 2021. You will be recording your own time which will allow us to determine age group awards!
Additionally, we are opening up a fundraising option this year. Nonprofits are really struggling during the pandemic as they are not able to conduct many of their usual in-person fundraising events. We are asking any participants who wish to participate to help us fundraise through their own race page by getting donations from their friends and family members (a template is provided through registration). As an incentive, top fundraisers will be awarded prizes! Participating in fundraising for CIMWI is not a requirement to register, but we sure would appreciate the help during these trying times.

We will miss the fun of being together at our event but we’ll be cheering each other on virtually and look forward to being back in person for Fins, Flippers & Fun in 2021!
