Description
"Backyard Ultramarathons" are events where participants typically run 4.1667 miles every hour for as long as they can continue- that works out to 100 miles per day. The world record was just set on 10/20 by Karel Sabbe in Belgium: 75 hours!!! We WON'T be doing that, but we made a modified version for Annalisa's 37th birthday.
The challenge: The ultimate goal is to run or walk 1.54 miles every hour of the day on November 1st, midnight to midnight, for a total goal of 37 miles (24 x 1.54 = 37). Annalisa will be joined virtually by Maggie Lee and by husband David. We'll see how far we can get! (Note- it is the end of daylight saving on Nov 1, so we will get one freebie hour...)
Donations: For every mile we complete we will be donating to The White Pony Express, a wonderful local organization that strives to eliminate hunger and poverty in our county. They are linked to the school that Maggie and I attended and that Olin now attends. If you feel moved to donate as well, AWESOME! The donations are secure and go directly to the charities. (If you prefer, you can Venmo or deliver a check, and we will add your donation on your behalf!)
You can pledge to donate per mile completed for any runner by going to Find Participant, selecting the runner, and clicking on the Donation Pledges button at the bottom.
Or, you can donate a flat amount by using the Donate button. It doesn't matter to whom you assign your donation.
Join us: Click Sign up if you want to join the fun! You can do the same challenge or run/walk any challenge you are inspired to do on November 1. When you are done, you enter your mileage to be displayed under Results. You could even become a fundraiser if you like!
