Virtual Race
Description
We're all feeling the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Keeping social distancing in mind, we're all trying to keep ourselves and our families safe and healthy and help our neighbors here in Boulder. As runners, the races that we've been training for have been cancelled or postponed. We're still training. We're still out on the streets and trails, keeping our social distancing dialed, and working on our fitness.
In early March, there were nearly 10,000 employees working in Downtown Boulder. Now, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of these workers are unexpectedly and heartbreakingly unemployed. For those living paycheck to paycheck when times are good, this situation puts them in dire financial and emotional distress. For the most precarious, this could mean evictions, utility shut-offs, missed payments, lack of food and other economic catastrophes. That's why the Downtown Boulder Foundation (DBF) has created the Downtown Boulder Employee Assistance Fund. Money donated will be used to provide gifts of $500 to those employees in severe financial distress (see Employee Assistance Fund Details for complete details on the fund).
You can support our efforts by participating in the "Fun-d Run" Virtual 5K by encouraging friends to donate or by simply making a tax-deductible donation directly to the fund. During race registration, you'll also have the opportunity to buy a limited edition t-shirt to support the fund for $25. $15 of the sale of each shirt goes to support the fund.
The Downtown Boulder Employee Assistance Fund Virtual 5K has NO REGISTRATION FEE. We have no medals, no fancy trinkets to stick on your shelves. What we DO have is the ability to take your virtual results, compare them with your age group and give YOU the ability to spread the word about fundraising for downtown businesses employees.
Every participant in our run will have a fundraising page automatically created for them. You can share this with your friends, family and neighbors and help RAISE MONEY to provide for the Downtown Boulder Foundation's efforts to provide relief to downtown businesses most impacted employees.
Please remember guidance from the Boulder County Health Department when participating in this Virtual 5K:
- At all times during your run, protect yourself and those around you by keeping your distance - at least 6 feet - from others
- If you have or develop cold or flu-like symptoms please stay home and away from others.
Monthly Awards:
- Monthly drawings will be held from among all race participants who submit a time that month, set up a fundraiser and tell people about it on Social Media for five (5) $100 gift cards to a downtown Boulder business of choice
