Millions of people are affected by mental illness each year. In 2021, 22.8% of adults in the U.S. experienced mental illness (57.8 million people). But did you know that exercise not only benefits your physical health, but your mental health as well? Exercise releases chemicals, like endorphins and serotonin, that improve your mood. It can also get you out in the world, help to reduce any feelings of loneliness and isolation, and put you in touch with other people. If you exercise regularly, it can reduce your stress and symptoms of mental health conditions like depression or anxiety and help with recovery from mental health issues.
Join Doctors Care in raising awareness about mental health by participating in our Virtual 5k. Sign up to complete 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) of walking during the month of May and be entered to win a Self-Care package, including: a Doctors Care mug with tea, one month of unlimited yoga for you and a friend at YogaSix, a yoga mat, tumbler, and a $25 gift card to King Soopers.
