Description
Free race for children 8th grade and younger as part of the annual Spring Run Off. In past years we've had over 450 kids in these races so please get pre-registered early so all you have to do is pick up a bib race morning. We do have same day registration from 8:30 to 10:30 am. So sign up and pick up a bib no later than 10:30 a.m.
Assemble on the football field areas listed by 10:40 a.m.
10:45 a.m.: 50-yard dash for kids Kindergarten and younger (starts on 50 yard line and goes to west end zone)
10:55 a.m.: 1.2-mile run for kids in grades 4-8 (gather at BLUE balloons near 50 yard line)
10:57 a.m.: 1.2-mile run for kids in grades 3 and younger (gather at RED balloons near 50 yard line)
11:15 am: Kids gather on the field by school for recognizing the top 3 schools with the most kids!
- A parent or teacher can run with a group of young kids in the 2nd wave but need to sign up (doesn't count towards school competition). Please let all the fast and furious kiddos go ahead, stay to the back of the group start until the group spreads out.
School Competition
The school that has the most participants picking up a bib to run on race day gets to take home the Traveling Trophy! *Larger schools have an advantage and we might apply a participation rate mentioned below.
Online registration is encouraged - just show up and pick up and pin on your bib!
- Same day registration until 10:15 am - must be signed in and bib picked up.
- But you must pick up bib and run on race day for your school to get credit for you running. Official school participation count is done after bibs are picked up.
A couple elementary schools have made this a pretty good competition bringing over 100 kids to the race to take home the trophy. So make sure you give your school credit when you sign up! We encourage you to sign up on line to skip long line on race day to register - just go to pre-registered table to pick up bib and pins.
* Smaller schools are at a disadvantage and have requested if the count is close, we determine a percentage of total school population participating on rate day. Such as 95 kids from a school with 250 kids (38%) vs 100 kids from a school with 500 kids (20%), the higher percentage group could win the trophy. High participating schools need to provide their school's official count to the race director before the race. We just want to see lots of happy kids running but we also want to recognize schools really getting their kids moving also. We might just get another prize if this happens.

Course change to 2026: The 1.2 mile run will run counter clockwise on the track and out the gate on the right side of the locker rooms by the scoreboard. The hope is to thin out the grouping of kids for a safer transition at the gate. The kids will run down the hill but will turn right (downstream) to the 4th Street bridge, turn around and come back up the hill and into the stadium on the gate left of the locker rooms and run straight to the finish line. Parents will get the best pictures of kids as they run along the track, there won't be a good view of the kids outside the stadium on the hill overlooking the trail below as in past years.

Parents and Teachers
We encourage parents to stay in the stadium for a photo finish or watch the race unfold from the trail overlook just outside the stadium. We often have teachers run with students from their school and we have volunteers on the course.
Parents often ask if they can escort their child, especially the little ones. Parents may escort their child but need to register and sign the liability waiver. When you register online, select "Teacher/Parent Escort" instead of a school. Parents and teachers may also sign up race morning.
We want to keep everyone safe, so we ask any adults escorting on the course allow the mad dash of kids to go ahead of them until the field of runners spreads out a bit. We don't want anyone tripping and a bigger person landing on a smaller person.
