Description
T.S. Eliot wrote that April is the cruelest month, but for runners, it might really be January. The post-holiday euphoria has worn off (but not the attendant weight gain), it's cold and dark when you wake up and the same when you finish work (even if it's remote) and the harsh reality sets in that there are a good two to three months of winter to get through before the days get noticeably longer and warmer. And although the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines gives hope we might finally be reaching an end to the pandemic, in-person races are still aways off.
So to keep you motivated until then, we're rolling out a cheap and easy way to stay motivated through the first month of the new year,
Kick 2020 to the curb by running a Virtual 5K on New Year's Eve or Day (time period extended through January 3). Then jump start your training for 2021 with a month-long mileage challenge. All participants will receive a long sleeve gender specific tech shirt, and those who register for the Challenge will also get a custom medal. The top goal for the month is 131 miles (from the calendar shorthand for the final day of the month, 1/31), a little more than 4 miles a day, or you can set your own goal of more or fewer miles. We'll have plenty of intermediate mileposts along the way to get you out the door on those cold and dreary days we're sure to encounter. All race proceeds will go to benefit the Connectictut Food Bank.
Race Swag
Entrants in all events will receive a custom long-sleet tech shirt. New Year's 5K shirts will be delivered early in 2021; entrants in the January Challenge will receive their shirt and medal later that month.
Mileposts
To keep you going through the month, we've established intermediate mileposts. When you reach one, you'll get a popup message and email and a badge added to your results profile
The mileposts are:
One A Day (30 Miles)
Magnificent 7 (7 Consecutive Days of running)
Big 5-0 (50 Miles)
En-Route 66 (66 Miles, just over halfway)
Triple Figures (100 Miles)
Daily Demon (30 days of running [we gave you one day off])
First Month (121 Miles)
1/31 (131 Miles)
How to submit your results
Posting results can sometimes be the tricky part of running a Virtual race.
If you're inputting your results yourself, basic instructions are posted HERE.
RunSignUp also supports integration with GPS devices and apps like Strava, so you can upload your performance that way. Details are explained HERE.
