Description
The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants is thrilled to announce CIRI's United for Refugees walk/run for refugees worldwide. The virtual race can be completed between May 20 and June 20 – World Refugee Day.
Around the world, over 70 million people have been forced to flee their home, among them nearly 26 million refugees. Nearly half of these refugees are under the age of 18. Refugees travel hundreds and thousands of miles to get to safety. UNHCR calculated that collectively, people forced to flee, travel over one billion miles every year to reach the first point of safety.
To raise awareness of the plight of refugees throughout the world, and in honor of the hundreds and thousands of miles our clients travel to reach safety, we are hosting CIRI's inaugural United for Refugees virtual walk/run. Participating is easy:
-
Sign up to walk or run a 5k, 10k, or 13.1m half marathon between May 20 and June 20! Form a team for some socially distant fun.
- Start walking or running at any point between now and June 20!
- Share running or walking selfies on social media with #UnitedforRefugees.
- When you’re done, submit your results to our online leaderboard via RunSignUp.
Why Run/Walk?
Your registration directly supports the work CIRI does every day with refugees in Connecticut. Whether it's moving a new refugees family into an apartment, getting children enrolled in school, providing ESL classes to adults, supporting parents with job training and employment searches, or simply being there for individuals on their new journey in Connecticut, CIRI's team is there every step of the way. Now, more than ever, refugees need your support. The United for Refugees Virtual race is an opportunity to both support CIRI's mission and celebrate the journey refugees take to arrive and thrive in the United States.
