Description
The Run for Andrea is a run in memory of Andrea Jamie, Georgetown Class of 2017, sponsored by Georgetown Emergency Medical Services (GERMS). During her time at Georgetown, Andrea took the Georgetown EMT certification course, and through that became close with many of Georgetown EMS members. In talking with her friends in GERMS and outside of our organization, it became clear that fitness in the forms of running and going to the gym were activities close to her heart, and that many of her friends participated in with her. The purpose of this run is to facilitate her remembrance and recognition on campus. Additionally, we would like to honor Andrea in this event by using the run to raise donations for Georgetown Scholarship Program (GSP) students, in particular, to take our EMT class without the financial burden. Finally, Andrea sadly passed away from a strain of bacterial meningitis (meningitis B). It is her family's wish for us to educate the participants of this event as well as the wider community about meningitis B and the new FDA-approved and CDC-recommended meningitis B vaccines that were unfortunately not available when Andrea passed away but now are distributed by many healthcare providers.
This link will give you instructions on how to donate to support GSP students who would like to take the EMT certification class: http://www.georgetownems.org/run-for-andrea/
