Description
The Ken Fontal Memorial 5K is presented by Wilmington University to honor Ken Fontal, a former WilmU cross country student-athlete who succumbed to his injuries after a tragic accident on February 6, 2019. Fontal was a four-time All-CACC performer and two-time all-regional runner on the WilmU cross country team. During his time at WilmU, he received several honors, including the CACC Rookie of the Year title in 2013.
As a sophomore, Fontal finished 14th at the CACC Championship and second overall as a junior. Ken was also selected as Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Runner of the Year in 2016, and was the overall winner of the CACC Championship in his senior season. Ken graduated in May 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance.
In addition to being an accomplished athlete and student, Fontal also was a dear friend to many members of the running community. We encourage all to join us at Glasgow Park in Newark, Delaware as we honor and celebrate Ken and his love for running.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Ken Fontal Memorial Scholarship Fund at Wilmington University. As an institution with admissions policies that provide access for all, it offers opportunity for higher education to students of varying ages, interests, and aspirations.
