Hearoes Relay Race Updates

Hi all,

As you may know, the Hearoes Relay Race scheduled for Saturday, March 14th has been canceled in response to the current state of being at the University of Florida in regard to COVID-19.

We appreciate all the support we have received and are so grateful to have such wonderful supporters. Please note, 100% of proceeds from the race registration entries will be donated to the UF Health Cochlear Implant Program. These donations are greatly appreciated and go a long way for patients and the clinic. Since we are unable to have a fundraising event this semester we will rely on these registrations/donations to support our cause. When the University of Florida resumes normal student operations, we will distribute the race shirts to all who have paid and kept their registration.

If you are interested in a refund of your registration, please indicate below so we can get in contact with you.

Thank you for the support and understanding!

Sincerely,
Naomi Kelly and Katarina Fiorentino

Description

Hearoes for Hearing is the University of Florida’s National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) philanthropy. This is our organization’s charity that directly benefits patients in the UF Health Cochlear Implant Program. This year Hearoes will be hosting our second annual Hearoes for Hearing Relay Race!  We hope you will join us and will bring along your friends to learn more about our cause!

According to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, approximately 28 million Americans have a hearing impairment. The purpose of Hearoes for Hearing is to raise money for the UF Cochlear Implant Fund to help purchase new test materials and therapy materials in the speech department for habilitation and rehabilitation, audiological tests, and provide loaner equipment for both the children and adult patients. Additionally, we strive to spread awareness about hearing loss throughout the Gainesville community.

Registration will be open on January 27th, 2020. The pricing is as follows: $20 for adults $10 for children until February 29th, 2020. $25 for adults $15 for children as of March 1st, 2020 with no shirt guaranteed. Day of $30 for adults and $15 children with no shirt guaranteed.

In 2017, we raised over $9,000 and had over 250 participants at our annual 5k. In 2018, we raised $16,982 and had 316 participants at our 5k! In 2019, we raised over $8,000 and had roughly 500 attendees at our events spanning throughout the year. Thanks to the incredible, dedicated participants, Hearoes for Hearing continues to grow every year! This year our goal is to continue to create diverse events and provide a community and support for the patients and families. We hope you decide to join our cause in supporting the local hearing loss community.
