3.2 for Haiti's Kids

Most children in Haiti have a school within 5 kilometers of their home, mostly only accessed by walking this distance twice per day.  In addition to the lack of access to education, the Haitian school system does not adequately retain students. Abandonment and repetition rates remain at high levels. The average student only attends school for a total of 3 years and 9 months, which is clearly insufficient to guarantee a satisfactory education. 

Sometimes the only thing that prolongs a student’s education is their ability to have full and balanced meals when they attend class.  Every other month we purchase a semi-truck full of food from Feed our Starving Children with containers that have 12,000 meals in them.  The cost of these meals is approximately $4,000 per truckload.  Living Water Haiti is an organization that has been feeding starving children and the elderly in NW Haiti for over 30 years.  Currently, we are feeding over 6000 Haitian children every day through our community outreach and support of the education facilities in the area.  This is our focus – fighting hunger and providing hope for a future through access to education.
