UPDATE JUNE 4: At the last contact with the park, this race is currently ON! We will be allowing free transfers, deferrals, or switch to virtual option to anyone who signed up prior to May 18th who does not feel comfortable participating. We do plan to spread the aid station out a bit and implement some procedures to allow for appropriate social distancing. We will have plenty of hand sanitizer and the restrooms will be available for hand washing. You are also welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks and place coolers near the aid station if you'd like.
Half marathoners have the option of a 30 minute early start. HALF MARATHONERS ONLY, NO EXCEPTIONS. You will want a light source - flashlight, headlamp, etc. - for the early start. This will help us with social distancing as well as beating the heat. You must have your bib picked up and be ready to listen to instructions at that time.
Depending on the final mix of distances, we may split up the start times of half marathoners, 10K, and 5K, only by a few minutes, and we may direct you to go a particular way on the loop course your first time around, to allow for more distancing.
Please remember that things change quickly. We cannot promise that this race will go on if the state, county, city, or parks department implements new regulations between now and race day.
The race now has a hard cap, and once it is full, it is full.
All of our vendors are not yet up and running fully yet, so we're scrambling to get some swag happening. It might not be what you're used to, but we're going to make sure you do get swag. We're also trying to get shirts made in time for the race, but again, our vendors aren't all yet up and running, so if we can't get them in time for the race, we'll mail them to you.
Bottom line: we're THRILLED to be allowed to have this race. It is going to look a little different because of everything going on, so PLEASE be willing to be patient and understanding with us!!
Newsflash: It's hot in Florida in the summer.
The good news is, we know how to take care of people in the heat.
Join us for Burn Your Half Off, the Florida edition, on Saturday, June 13th. One mile, 5K, 10K, and half marathon. The course will start and finish at Baseline Greenway Park, utilizing a one(ish) mile paved loop. Yes, that means 12 laps for the half marathon, but it also means that hydration, ice, banana smoothies, sunscreen, fruit, and salty snacks will all never be more than one mile away. We'll have ice water stationed halfway through the loop for dunking towels and hats into, and kiddie pools of ice water if you need to cool off in a hurry.
Our races are super low-key and non-competitive; we'd prefer to race you vs. you, not you vs. anyone else. We like to say it's more like a family picnic with some running involved as opposed to a typical race. The pressure is off. We're here to get you to the finish line! There is a 4 hour time limit for all distances. Walkers are welcome!
Your registration fee includes entry into the race distance of your choosing, race swag (technical fabric hat or visor for 10K or half marathon, Awesomesauce sunglasses for the 5K and one mile fun run), finisher medal for all distances, and our usual aid station setup including Gatorade, water, Gu, snacks and post-race food.
Shirts are NOT included in your race fee. We do give out race swag, it just won't be a shirt! We think there are enough races that give our shirts, and it's so hard to please everyone with the cut and color and style. However, as is tradition with this race since we've been holding it in Tennessee, shirts, tank tops, hoodies, and other swag with the sugar skull logo will be available for pre-order and purchase on race day.
As with any other race put on by any other company, registration fees and add-on fees are final and are not refundable or transferable for any reason. Prices are subject to change based on number of participants. The races will go on rain or shine, but we do not run if there is lightning or dangerous weather conditions.
It will be HOT on race day. It will be HUMID on race day. It is YOUR responsibility to take care of yourself in the climactic conditions. If, at any time, the race director or assistant race director determine that it would be unsafe for you to continue, you will be withdrawn from the race. When signing up for this race, you agree to follow ALL instructions given to you by the race director. We do give credit for distance covered, so if things don't go so well, you can change race distances mid-race to something shorter and still earn a medal and a finish time.
