Turkey Trot Striders Training

This fall your school can get a head start earning Kent Vann Partners in Excellence (KPVE) Awards by participating in the Turkey Trot Youth Striders training program.  This program is designed to help Striders become better runners and have fun doing it. Start gearing up for Thanksgiving Day with training and practice sessions and races on our calendar. You can participate, log your miles and qualify to win prizes!  All you have to do is sign up.  Practices will take place at two locations weekly (see below) beginning Tuesday, September 3, 2019, and ending Thursday, November 21, 2019.   

Official Practices- (earn 5 points for each practice you attend)

• Tuesdays from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m., at Maclay School on the back side of the school track, 3737 N. Meridian Rd.
• Thursdays at 5:45 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., at the Forest Meadows Parks and Athletic Center, 4750 N. Meridian Rd.

Please wear appropriate footwear and bring a water bottle!

Racing Schedule – (earn 10 points for every mile you race)

• Run/Walk for Sickle Cell Anemia - September 14
• Women’s Distance - September 21
• Race 4 Readiness  - October 19
• Elementary School Cross Country Championships - October 25
• Rex Cleveland Magic! Mile - November 3
• Turkey Trot  - November 28

Practice on your own and log your miles!   

• 25 miles - Turkey Trot Strider T-shirt
• 50 miles - Free entry to the Rex Cleveland Magical Mile
• 150 miles - Gulfwinds Striders technical top
• 500 miles - Free entry to Turkey Trot and special medal recognizing status as a GWTC TT Strider

As usual, we will have our school competition where schools can compete for the highest participation in the Turkey Trot races on Thanksgiving Day. Teachers and students=2 points, and friends and family=1 point. When you register for Turkey Trot, designate you are a Strider and win money to spend at the Strider store on the day of the Turkey Trot!
