Beat the Bridge 5K Challenge!

Join us for the 2nd Annual 1911 Initiative 5K Scholarship Run/Walk, where every mile you move helps us go the distance for college-bound students. Hosted in partnership with the Village of Matteson, this race is all about purpose, progress, and community pride.

This year, we’re turning up the energy with our signature “Beat The Bridge” 5K Challenge—inspired by the now-famous Matteson bridge at mile 3. What started as a tough incline quickly became the heart of the race last year. It challenged runners, brought out encouragement from the crowd, and gave everyone a moment to push past their limits and finish strong. Whether you run it, walk it, or power through step by step—the goal is simple: beat the bridge your way.

We’re proud to share that we’ve already registered over 300 runners and walkers, with a bold goal of 500 participants for 2026!

And here’s the real impact—this isn’t powered by big corporate dollars. The 1911 Initiative is a grassroots organization, fueled by everyday people like YOU. Every registration, every step, every share directly supports scholarships and paid internships, helping young people gain real opportunities and build brighter futures.
