As a volunteer at the starting and finish lines of the 1911 Initiative 5K Run/Walk, you will help create a smooth experience for participants. At the start line, you’ll assist with organizing runners and ensuring they are ready for the race. At the finish line, you'll welcome runners as they cross, hand out medals, and provide water and snacks to celebrate their accomplishment. Your role is crucial in setting a positive tone at the start and providing a rewarding finish for all participants.

Your responsibilities include posting live updates, photos, and videos across social media platforms, highlighting key moments, and promoting sponsor involvement. Your role is crucial in increasing online engagement, capturing the excitement of race day, and expanding the event’s reach to a broader audience.

Traffic & Safety Control High Priority

This volunteer position is critical to a smooth event. Each volunteer will be responsible for directing vehicles into the designated parking locations and keeping walking paths clear for runners.

ROLLER BLADERS AND SKATERS High Priority

The 1911 Initiative 5K is inviting ALL members of the roller‑blading and skating community to join us on race day! We want skaters at the front of the pack — leading the charge, setting the energy, and motivating runners all the way to the finish line. Bring your wheels, your style, and your best moves as you glide ahead of the crowd and help push our participants through the final stretch.

The 1911 Initiative 5K is calling ALL cyclists to roll out with purpose on race day! We need the biking community at the front of the pack — leading the route, blocking off intersections, keeping runners on course, and bringing up the rear to make sure every participant finishes strong.

Your presence sets the pace, lifts the energy, and turns the race into a full community movement. Bring your wheels, your speed, and your leadership as you guide runners across the Matteson Bridge and through the final stretch.
