Description

Welcome to the 11th Annual Sarah Jones Memorial 5K!!!

Deputy Sarah Jones, with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, was struck on October 17, 2008, while directing traffic along State Road 45, in Bloomington, Indiana; where she later succumbed to her injuries on October 19, 2008.

For those who don't know Sarah, please allow us to introduce her to you.  Sarah was born on April 2, 1981 to Wayne and Kimalee Haylett.  Sarah displayed passion for public safety, law enforcement, and a need to help others throughout her entire life.  During her youth, Sarah was active in the 4-H, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and had become a Captain in the Michigan State Police Explorers program.  Sarah was a United State Air Force Veteran, serving from 2001 to 2006, during which time she became the President of the Airman's Association.  Sarah continued her passion for public service and earned a position with the Montgomery, Alabama Police Department, where she served one and one half years before she moved to Indiana, and joined the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The purpose of this race, is to raise funds that support scholarships for local, female, high school seniors who wish to pursue a career in public safety.  Sarah had a passion for helping others, a desire to make this world a better place, and her legacy lives on today, through each and every runner, walker, sponsor, and scholarship recipient!

This year, the Sarah Jones Memorial 5K, is set to be one, just like she will always be, MEMORABLE!!!
