Description
This year looks a little different but the race must go on. Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks is still helping families amid the pandemic and has been unable to hold some of their most successful fundraisers due to Covid-19 and the need to social distance. This year, the race will be virtual with the ability to register the entire month of October. Everyone who registers will receive a custom designed medal and T-shirt. This race will continue to also provide scholarships to two graduating seniors at Galena High School, where Sarah Burkybile graduated and also worked.
2019 registrants: For those of you who registered for the 2019 race that was cancelled, I will be sending out emails in the next few days to confirm participation in this race and transfer of registration funds.
About the Organization: Run Like a Girl was created in 2012 in honor of an amazing woman, Sarah Burkybile. Sarah battled breast at the young age of 26 for 5 years. Through it all she was so strong and such an inspiration to many. So, a group of her friends and acquaintances wanted to do something to honor her and keep her spirit alive. The money collected through this organization is obtained during a 5K and silent auction usually held the first Saturday in October. After the event, half of the money is given to Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (BCFO), an organization very dear to Sarah’s heart that helped her and many of her pink sisters out financially while going through chemo and battling this awful disease. The other half will go to a scholarship for local students each year.
