We've gone virtual!
After much deliberation and consultation of local and national guidance, we have decided to err on the side of caution, and change this race to a virtual race. We feel it would be quite frankly irresponsible to hold an event that by nature creates a crowd. There are too many people we care about in this community to put anyone at risk. We do everything in our power to keep our participants safe during our races, and in this case at this time, that means not hosting our race at a single physical venue where we would be forming a crowd.
If you're already signed up for the race, you don't have to do anything. And don't worry! You'll still get your shirt, and a fun race award! You'll be automatically switched to the virtual run, and we'll send out instructions soon about what race day will look like, and how to collect your race swag. Don't forget to encourage your friends to sign up so they can participate virtually too! Just remember- run alone!
We hope everyone understands our position, and we can’t wait to see where you run on race day!

It’s with a heavy heart, that we’re reaching out to inform you that we will be cancelling John’s Run Local 8k. In today’s climate, we feel it would be inappropriate to host an event that would by nature draw a crowd. We had hoped to make this a virtual event, but interest and participation have been too low for us to be able to pull this off. We will be refunding your race fee, and you should see the money back in your account in a few days. We hope you understand our position, and look forward to racing with you again soon.
In the meantime, keep running, keep active, and take care of yourselves. We wouldn’t be who we are without each and everyone of you, and we can hardly wait for the time we can all run together again.

Join us May 9th, 2020 to honor and commemorate John Sensenig’s 40+ years of service to the local running community. John has been a fixture in the local running and walking community since opening his first local running shop in 1977. Year-in and year-out, John and his Run/Walk Shop has been at the forefront of creating a lively and local running/walking family. After a lifetime of service and as John continues to step back from the day-to-day running of the shop, John’s Run Local 8k has grown from the desire to celebrate all he has given to the local Lexington and Central Kentucky community.
This year, the race will take place on Saturday, May 9th, and will be entirely virtual. You get to make your own starting line and starting time, and it’s infinitely more convenient to be able to run from (or even in!) your own home. All you have to do at the end is upload your results! Participants will receive a short sleeve technical running shirt (in your choice of men’s or women’s sizing) with the John’s Run Local 8k logo as well as a custom finisher award.
Race swag pickup details TBA.
