Description
We are a group of passionate Louisville teenagers from Louisville Collegiate School and St. Xavier High School. We are organizing a 4k Run/Walk through Cherokee Park Loop, starting at Baringer Hill (Dog Hill). We are trying to raise money for an organization called Conquer Chiari. We are directly affected by Chiari Malformation. We are asking for a suggested $15 donation per runner, but if you double that amount to $30 (or donate more!) we will give you a t-shirt!
Conquer Chiari is an organization that raises money and helps fund research relating to Chiari Malformation. “Chiari Malformation is a neurological disorder that affects the cerebellum, the bottom part of the brain. The cerebellum descends out of the skull and towards the spinal cord. This puts pressure on both the skull and spine” (Conquer Chiari). The money would go towards the C&S Patient Education Foundation, described below. “The C&S Patient Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the experiences and outcomes of Chiari and syringomyelia patients through education, awareness, and research.” (Conquer Chiari).
The symptoms of Chiari usually present themselves as ADD/ADHD and/or Autism. During a time where misdiagnoses are prevalent and attention is being brought to this issue, we believe advocating for another possible solution to developmental behavior is necessary. The foundation advocates for our mission of education, awareness, and funding towards research.
