Description
Run for Hope is an organization dedicated ending Lung Cancer. The run honors Vincent Guy Lombardo Sr. a nonsmoker and 18-year lung cancer survivor who succumbed to the disease in January 2004. He served on Anderson's Network Steering Committee for 15 years, providing hope and encouragement to fellow cancer patients. In November 2003, Lombardo was awarded the MD Anderson Joseph T. Painter Award for his outstanding volunteer work with cancer survivors – the first time an individual, not a resident of Texas, ever received the Painter Award. In 2005, it started a walk to raise money for Lung Cancer. The walk became a race held every November-November is Lung Cancer awareness month. With football games and other events going on, it was hard to choose a good date. The idea of a Thanksgiving run sparked The Run for Hope Turkey Trot that is held every Thanksgiving morning. Later, The Run for Hope Bunny Hop was formed and takes place in the spring. #runforhope
