Description
We're doing our BEST in getting creative in this new virtual space we're all living in and have created an AWESOME challenge to celebrate the onset of Summer during Summer Solstice on June 20th!!
Lace up those sneakers and run into the longest day of the year solo or with a team!
The summer solstice also known as midsummer, occurs when one of the Earth's poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun. It happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). The summer solstice is when the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky and is the day with the longest period of daylight. On the summer solstice, Earth's maximum axial tilt toward the Sun is 23.44°. Likewise, the Sun's declination from the celestial equator is 23.44°.
With the maximum amount of sunlight possible on June 20th, we challenge you to complete 23.44 miles throughout the course of the day. The challenge will open at 12:00AM and close at 11:59PM. You can complete this challenge individually or on a team of up to 5 people.
How's it work?!
If you are competing on a team, one individual will be allowed to run at a time. We encourage you to come up with a team plan in advance in order to reach the 23.44 miles by 11:59PM. You should have an idea of when your teammate will be finishing so once you receive that text that they are done you can begin your portion of the run. Special awards will be given to the top 3 fastest Male and Female individuals running all 23.44 miles and the first 3 teams of (2+) to complete the entire distance.
While it is likely that most of you will be running in separate locations, we are encouraging you to stay in contact digitally and share photos of your run with each other and via our High5EM Instagram & Facebook Pages, using the hashtag, #SummerSolsticeChallenge #High5EM
