PAWS 5K Virtual Fun Run, Walk and Wag, and COSTUME CONTEST!

Dress up or down, run, walk and raise funds, and GO THE (SOCIAL) DISTANCE for PAWS Wakefield this Halloween season!  This event has something for everyone!!

This year has been difficult.  So, why not join us and get outside for some exercise and Halloween fun? You can run or walk your chosen distance in your OWN FREE TIME and in your own neighborhood!  Plus, since this event is virtual, you can invite your animal-loving (and race-loving) friends, aunts, uncles and cousins to join you from anywhere: other towns, other states, even other countries!

ATTENTION RUNNERS! Sign up for the Virtual 5K Fun Run and pick your own course.  Whether you run in your neighborhood, on a local track, or even on a treadmill, you can submit your best time for the 5K distance and compete to be the fastest male or fastest female runner.  Run or raise funds by yourself, or create a team and compete for a race and a fundraising prize!  To compete in the race, run 3.1 miles anytime between 10/24 and 10/31, use any app (Map My Run, Nike Run Club, Runkeeper, etc.) that will show the date of your run and your time and distance, take a photo of your screen, and upload your time and confirmation photo through this site to be considered for a prize. Prizes for fastest male and fastest female runner! (See RESULTS and PHOTOS tabs above).  

PREFER TO WALK?  Sign up for the Virtual Walk & Wag. Grab some comfortable shoes and take a stroll (or several), by yourself or with a (socially distanced) fundraising team! Walk around the block, through the woods, on the beach or stay inside and use the treadmill—the choice is yours.  Walk a mile or a marathon.  Take your dog along, push your cat in a kitty carriage, or join your fundraising teammates for a leisurely hike down a trail.  If you want to compete for a walker prize, record your longest walk for a single-day between 10/24 and 10/31 or the total distance walked over the whole race week, and upload your time and confirmation photo(s) through this site to be considered for a prize. Prizes for the longest single-day walk and longest cumulative walk for the week! (See RESULTS and PHOTOS tabs above).  

WANT TO SUPPORT PAWS ANIMALS FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR CHAIR?  Then sign up for a Cat Nap!! (Or simply go to the "DONATE" button for a single individual donation).  You can make a personal donation, donate to a friend’s fundraising team or start your own team of Cat Nappers working together to raise funds. Prizes for the top individual and top team fundraisers!

OR...JUST DRESS UP FOR HALLOWEEN (and support PAWS homeless animals!)  One entry to the Costume Contest is included with the Run and Walk race registrations, or you can register yourself, your child, or your pet (cats, dogs, hamsters, and all pets are welcome) for only $10 each in the costume contest. It's easy! Simply dress up in your favorite costume, grab some props or scary lighting, and snap your BEST photo and upload your costume photo(s) (one photo per registration for each event) to your own album on the "PHOTOS" tab to be considered for a prize.  (See PHOTOS tab above).  Voting instructions will be provided. Prizes will be awarded to the best costumes with the most votes in SIX categories (adult, child, team, cat, dog, other pet)!

We know that staying home and social distancing have not been easy, and we all miss getting together for a good cause. And, though we are still discouraged from participating in large group events, the PAWS Virtual 5K Fun Run/Walk & Wag/Costume Contest is a way to get outside, safely, and on your own time, and support the felines-in-need in our communities.

Please adhere to the CDC's safety guidelines. Run solo or 6-feet away from a running partner. Walk with your kids and dogs. Set up a course in your backyard! All are encouraged to participate in a safe manner.
