Freedom Flag Memorial 5K

Why We Run: To Honor and Remember Fallen Heroes from Woburn & Stoneham and all those who have served and sacrificed for our Country and the Communities in which they served.

In Memory of Cpl. David Atherton and Woburn Resident Kevin McDonald. 

Cpl. David Atherton; 23, was Born in Winchester on September 25, 1992, he was the son of the late Richard E. and Kathleen A. (Noonan) Atherton.David was a graduate of Stoneham High School, Class of 2011 and Northshore Community College. David enlisted in the Army National Guard in 2011. David was a part of the 972nd Military Police Company. David was also a Stoneham Firefighter. He strived to serve his country and community. David died on June 28, 2016, in his hometown of Stoneham Massachusetts after a tragic accident. David was a loving, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. David touched so many lives and he will be forever missed. Kevin McDonald, 20, born in Winchester, Massachusetts passed away on October 24, 2017 after a tragic motorcycle accident. Kevin was the son of Roland J. and Cheryl A. (Wilson) McDonald of Woburn. Brother of Sarah Atherton and her husband Richard of Tewksbury, and Steven McDonald of Woburn. Uncle of James and Abagail Atherton. Kevin will be forever missed.  Both David and Kevin were active in living a healthier lifestyle. They embraced life, liberty and their freedom.

Battle of the Biggest Team: This is Exclusive to those in the Military & First Responders: whether Active or Veterans. Create a Military or First Responder Team and let the Battle of the Biggest Begin! Battle of the Biggest  Team will be awarded the Spartan Helmet and bragging rights. Your team can be mixed with military or first responders whom are active or veterans either side. So get your team registered!

DISTANCE:  5k 
LOCATION: Horn Pond Woburn, MA 
FINISHER MEDALS:  Medal design coming soon!
T-SHIRTS: Shirts are guaranteed to the first 150 registered participants / prior to September 11, 2023.

RACE MEDAL guaranteed to the first 200 registered participants to cross the finish line. 

*Kids entries do not include a free event shirt. Kids who are signed up will receive their own race medal. 
COURSE: Horn Pond Woburn WATER STOP: Water stops will be available along the route.

We do NOT guarantee a course monitor will be present at every turn.  
PARKING: Along Horn Pond and in surrounding areas. 

There will be NO bag check. Please leave personal belongings in your car. If you are picking up your race packet on RACE DAY, please allow enough time to bring your SWAG bag to your car prior to the race. 

WALKERS: Walkers/strollers and pets are welcome to the race, but we ask you to please start at the back of the field to mitigate congestion on-course.

SHIRTS & MEDALS: First 100 runners who pre-register are guaranteed a free t-shirt, at bib pick up (race day registrants are based on availability of tee shirts). Medals are guaranteed to the first 250 runners to cross the finish line. 

***Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Male & Female (No age Division) 

​POST-RACE: Water and snacks will be provided at the finish line. 

REFUNDS: *All entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. This is a rain or shine event, provided the weather does not present a hazard for our runners, volunteers and partners. 
 
Donations of services and products to the event are welcomed as long as they are individual sealed and wrapped. 
 
This event is proudly hosted by Give2Those a 501 (c)(3) charity, dedicated to serving the needs of our Nations Heroes and their families. ​All proceeds from this event benefit Give2Those and the Cpl. David Atherton scholarship assistance fund.
