The 26th Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run, Walk and Kid’s Fun Runs will take place on Saturday, August 31st starting with the kids runs at 8 a.m. on Main Street near the Kentlands/Lakelands Market Square Plaza and followed by the 5k at 8:30 a.m.

The kids events for children under 14 come in 2 sizes -  either the 200 m Tot Trot or 500 m Kids Dash and start at 8:00 a.m., but come early to meet everyone and walk to the start. Based on number of runners there may be more than one start for each event.

This USATF certified 5K course winds and rolls through the new urbanist communities of Kentlands and Lakelands of Gaithersburg, giving participants the chance to experience the unique design of these award-winning neighborhoods. Modest hills make the course somewhat challenging, but not difficult for novice runners and walkers. The course also features live entertainment and two (2) water stops along the way!

Please note that the company/friends team competition is for runners over the age of 18.

Last year, the Foundation donated $11,000 to the City of Gaithersburg’s Dolores C. Swoyer Camp Scholarship Fund which provides registration fees for underprivileged youth to attend summer camp. Camp scholarship funds provide a summer of learning and activities for children who are unable, without assistance, to meet the financial requirements of summer camp.

The Race Committee also granted $2,500 to the Dwelling Place, Inc., a non-profit based in Gaithersburg which supports homeless families in Montgomery County, MD, in their pursuit of self-sufficiency by providing housing, education, financial and life skills, and career enhancement.

The Foundation also donated $1,000 to the Maryland Senior Olympics, a non-profit that helps support the health of Maryland seniors.

Lastly, the Foundation also donated $500 to Mercy Health Clinic, a totally free clinic serving the uninsured in Montgomery County,

The Kentlands Community Foundation is also a beneficiary. The community-based, not-for- profit and philanthropic organization rooted in Kentlands has a three-fold mission: to serve as an educational resource on the landmark new urbanist community that is Kentlands, to build community by supporting local arts and cultural programs, and to provide opportunities for volunteerism and community outreach. All programs are open to everyone, regardless of residency, and volunteers are always welcome.
