Description
Running On Air is not hosting a new Rare Disease Day virtual race this year or in the foreseeable future. We've received messages though and interest in past virtual race medals, so we are offering our past virtual race medals to those who would like to purchase them.
We have very limited resources and when we started out 10 years ago, we had the time and bandwidth to host virtual races and to support other organizations like the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD). Now though our focus has shifted to supplemental oxygen education and advocacy. And, as a nonprofit, we need to focus on generating income and donations to help us meet our mission.
You can choose how far you want to walk or run to complete this event. Since this is for rare diseases and some people with rare diseases have trouble crossing a room, the distance you want to do is up to you. Participants can do 5 meters for those with disabilities or other difficulties that prevent them from going a longer distance. 5K for those who can do more than 5 meters. And 5 miles for those of you who are athletic or just ambitious. If you are healthy enough you can even do 10K or a half marathon.
Rare Disease Day is the last day of February each year. This year it is the 29th. You can complete your distance any time in February.
This event is organized by Running On Air, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization of volunteers whose mission is to help others breathe more easily. Our focus is on advocacy and education around supplemental oxygen, lung diseases, especially Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) and Bronchiectasis, and rare diseases.
All purchases will go to supporting our mission.
