Description

This year, our team has decided to make our 7th annual Thomaston Trek fundraiser a virtual event to respect the physical distancing guidelines that keep us all safe. The process is a little different, but has the same spirit of healthy challenge and gives us a chance to do something together, no matter where you are. We appreciate your support of the young people in our midcoast Maine community!

What's a virtual race?

In a virtual race, you can walk, run, or jog (or skip!) from any location, anytime during the month of June. You track your time and mileage (if you have a fitness app like MyFitnessMap or Strava, you can use it to make tracking easier. You can also DIY - time yourself and track your distance using a phone or watch.) Then, come back to this site to post your results. You can also enable text or email to post results. Or if you'd rather just participate, no sweat!

Want creative ideas to make this race super-fun? How about a stair-climbing challenge to make your run count extra? Set up a fitness relay, where you and 3 teammates take a week to run or walk. Encourage your friends and family to participate and nominate a someone else to participate every day. How about race bingo, where you use a sheet like this to see how many people can find the most during their race? Hate running? Challenge yourself to cover your distance in lunges (and say hello to new leg muscles!)

Where's the party?

THE START: We’ll start with a whistleblow start video on June 1st at 8:30am, posted to our Facebook channel @trekkersonline.

THE RACE: Take pictures of your race and route! Throughout June, we'll celebrate finishers who post pictures and tag us @trekkersonline.

THE FINISH: On July 1, we'll announce top finishers, but also there will be awards for other fun categories like most outrageous outfit or sweatiest after-picture or backwards finishers (just kidding, PLEASE don't run backwards!)

Where does the money go?

The $25 entry fee benefits our non-profit organization as a whole and ensures we continue to offer mentoring and experiential learning-based programming to rural students in Midcoast Maine. If you don't want to participate, you can still donate. You can also donate to support a student directly, by helping them pay for next year’s program dues. Program dues pay for things like activities (live or virtual) they do as a group or travel expenses for when they go on expeditions throughout the year. No student is ever turned away from programming because of an inability to pay.
