Description
Join Us for A Stroll for Sara - Saturday, August 8 •
Ann Arbor, MI (and beyond!)

On August 8, we’ll walk 3.2 miles in memory of Sara Zuleta-Acosta — to honor her vibrant spirit and raise funds for a cause she fought for with everything she had: supporting those diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC).

Why We Walk
In the fall of 2019, Sara Zuleta-Acosta discovered a lump in the shower. Two weeks later, at just 27, she was diagnosed with Stage III Triple Negative Breast Cancer — an aggressive and under-researched form of breast cancer that primarily affects younger women.

But cancer never defined Sara.

She kept living. She kept loving. She kept showing up — for music festivals, for spontaneous adventures, for sunsets with Bryan and their dog Barkley. She skied, traveled, danced, and showed us all what it means to live with grace, grit, and joy.

What began as a simple idea — walking alongside Sara while she fought — has become a mission to carry her spirit forward.

After Sara passed away in November 2023, just one month before her 32nd birthday, we set out with a goal: 👉 Raise $100,000 to fund a research grant in her name.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we've reached that milestone. Now, we're building on that impact by continuing to fund critical research and support programs for TNBC patients through the TNBC Foundation

About the Walk

📍 Start: Hunt Park (1035 Daniel St, Ann Arbor, MI 48103)
🏁 End: YORK Food & Drink (1928 Packard St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104)
 🗓️ Date: Saturday, August 8, 11:00AM
🚶 Distance: 3.2 miles — honoring the age Sara was when she passed

We'll stroll through the Water Hill neighborhood and downtown Ann Arbor, wrapping up our walk at YORK. While there won't be any organized activities as the walk concludes at YORK, we hope you'll stay to enjoy a refreshing SaZu cocktail (a portion of proceeds of this cocktail will go back to our fundraiser!) or a light bite.

There’s ample street parking near both locations. Please plan your own transportation from YORK back to Hunt Park after the event ends.

Included With Registration

  • A commemorative T-shirt (for local participants)
  • The chance to support research in Sara's name

All registration fees and donations go directly towards the research grant we're funding through the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.

Can’t Make It to Ann Arbor? Join Us From Anywhere!

Walk, run, bike, or move your body 3.2 miles from wherever you are. As Sara would say, moving your body is a privilege. You can still register, donate, and be a part of this special day.

Why TNBC Awareness Matters
Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) accounts for 10–20% of all breast cancer cases, but it’s more aggressive and harder to treat than other subtypes. TNBC disproportionately affects younger women and certain ethnic groups, and it lacks the hormone receptors that many breast cancer treatments target.

Raising awareness fuels research, early detection, and better outcomes. It also supports the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
