Description
Join us on a stroll to help us fund a research grant in Sara Zuleta’s name!
As many know, we lost our Sara in the Fall of 2023 to Triple Negative Breast Cancer, also known as TNBC. She truly changed and inspired so many lives with her zest for life as well as her courageous fight with the disease. We have chosen to keep her spirit alive by continuing the fight.
As our first official event, we are hosting our second A Stroll for Sara fundraiser in partnership with the TNBC Foundation. Our goal is to raise $100,000 over a series of events to fund a research grant in Sara's name. Sara’s life partner Bryan has joined the board of the TNBC foundation to further our reach, learn how to operate a non-profit, maximize the money we raise, all to make an impact in Sara’s name. Ultimately, our goal is to help ensure every patient receives timely, effective care to beat TNBC.

Please join us on Sunday June 9 for a Stroll for Sara, where we will walk 3.2 miles in memory of Sara.
The Walk: Sara was just one month shy of her 32nd birthday when she passed away after a 4 year long battle against Triple Negative Breast Cancer in November 2023. On June 9, we will walk 3.2 miles for Sara.
If you would like to sign up for the stroll as a group, visit our donations page where there are different package levels to do so.
The walk will start at Hunt Park in the Waterhill neighborhood in Ann Arbor. We will walk from Hunt Park (1035 Daniel St, Ann Arbor, MI 48103) to YORK (1928 Packard St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104) where we will have multiple live DJs hosting a online stream of the event ( a link will go out for viewing, if you are not local or cannot attend the event!), as well as snacks, refreshments and additional information available on how you can donate and support Sara Strong and our partner, the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.
There is ample street parking in the neighborhoods surrounding Hunt Park and YORK. Make sure to arrange your transportation to get back to Hunt Park on your own as the event will end at YORK.
All registration fees & donations will go directly to the eventual research grant in Sara’s name. All donations are tax-deductible.*
*A small percentage of funds raised will be used to support the organization of the event, tax deductions will be finalized after the event.
What is TNBC?
TNBC stands for Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Breast cancer is diagnosed based on the presence or absence of three receptors, which are the drivers for the development and growth of breast cancer. These include estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and HER2-neu. Triple negative breast cancer is diagnosed when a woman’s pathology report indicates a negative result for all three. This makes it harder to treat, as common hormones and targeted therapies don't work. While TNBC accounts for about 10-20% of all breast cancer cases, it is a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer with a poorer prognosis compared to other subtypes.
Why is it important to raise awareness of TNBC?
Raising awareness about triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is vital, as it accounts for 10-20% of all breast cancer cases and disproportionately affects younger women and certain ethnic groups. TNBC is a more aggressive form of breast cancer with limited targeted therapies, making early detection crucial for improving the 5-year survival rate, which is lower than other breast cancer subtypes. By increasing public understanding of TNBC, we can encourage earlier screening, foster support for the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and drive research efforts towards innovative treatments.
