to benefit the American Heart Association: Go Red for Women
Put on your pinafore. Slip on your shift. Get on your gown. Deck yourself out in any dress you'd like, but make sure it's red, then join hundreds of ladies and gentlemen at 7 PM on Wednesday, July 27 for the Detroit area's first-ever Red Dress Dash.
Dashing Through Detroit
Help paint the Motor City red by running or walking the Red Dress Dash 5K! This scenic, 3.1-mile course starts and finishes on Detroit's beautiful Belle Isle State Park, with gorgeous views of the city skyline and the Canadian coast. Run past the Memorial Fountain. Cruise past the Casino. Pass by pavilions, marinas, and plazas on your way to an unforgettable photo finish. Run by yourself or grab some loved ones and run together! Dress alike to make your group even more distinctive... and definitely feel free to accessorize! If dashing 5K in a dress seems daunting, choose our one-mile fun run/walk instead! You'll still enjoy the opportunity to showcase your athletic abilities in this shorter distance... and dahling, you'll look mahvelous doing so!
Why a Red Dress?
Only 55 percent of American women realize that heart disease is their No. 1 killer, taking more lives per year than all forms of cancer combined. Less than 50 percent of American women — that's less than one out of every two — know what is considered to be a healthy level for such cardiovascular risk factors as blood pressure and cholesterol. The American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign strives to ensure that women know they are at risk so that they can take action to protect their health. The American Heart Association adopted the red dress as a symbol to raise awareness about women and heart disease. Funds raised by Go Red for Women support educational and community programs that advance women’s understanding about their risk for heart disease and provide tools and motivation to help women reduce their risk and protect their health.
