Come and enjoy running or walking through scenic Fowler, Michigan neighborhoods and on the rail trail as part of the Most Holy Trinity (MHT) church festival weekend! The first wave of the 5K will start on Saturday, July 25th at 6:30 PM. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic several changes will be made to the race this year in an effort to ensure participant safety. Among the changes are we will stagger race start times by age group and we will not have a kid's dash. Other changes are described in more detail below and will be emailed to all participants before the race. We are still looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable race.
The 5K start and finish will be near MHT and strollers are welcome. The 5K cost includes a t-shirt which is guaranteed for those registering at least 2 weeks before the race. Extra t-shirts are available to order for $10. All race proceeds will go to MHT. The 5K will be good for seasoned running veterans as well as casual athletes looking to get some exercise. Modified contact-free race day registration will be available, but we would prefer that you register online or mail the paper registration form. Online registration will be available through Thursday, July 23rd at 11:59 PM.
The 5K course map is shown below. Participants will start running north on Maple Street near Kent Street and will turn left on Blue Spruce Drive. After going through the subdivision, participants will head back to the starting area and will turn right on Kent Street. They will take the curve on Kent Street, continue down Pine Street, Clinton Street, and Henderson Street to the rail trail. After heading west down the rail trail, participants will turn back east and return on the same roads to MHT for the finish.
Everyone must follow applicable distancing guidelines (www.cdc.gov/coronavirus) and avoid close-up person-to-person interactions. Everyone must be in good health and symptom free from any illness for at least 2 weeks prior to the event.
Packet Pickup: The packet pickup area will be spaced out to allow ample room for social distancing. We encourage participants to wear a mask when picking up their packet.
Wave Start: Different age groups will start in 5-minute intervals to allow for better spacing on the race course. We will also separate runners at the start of each wave so that they are at least 6 feet from each other. Wave start times and other important information will be emailed before the race. Family members wishing to run together may go in the same wave even if they are not all in the same age group.
During the Race: Except for passing, participants should always remain on the far right-hand side of the road or pathway. Participants passing one another on the course must adhere to “no drafting” rules which include being no closer than 10 feet behind or in front of, or 6 feet beside other competitors at any time. Participants may pass only when there are not any oncoming runners approaching from the opposite direction. Before passing participants must be sure they can safely remain 10 feet behind and then 10 feet in front of the participant being overtaken before merging back to the right-hand side of the road or pathway.
Kid's Dash: Unfortunately, we will not have a kid's dash this year. We hope to bring this back in 2021.
After the Race: Upon crossing the finish line we ask that participants move towards the exit of the finish area. Congregating near the finish line will not be permitted.
Results and Awards: Results will be emailed out and available on the race website within 24 hours of the race. Results will not be posted after the race and there will not be an awards ceremony or award medals.
Fluid Stations and Post Race Food: We will provide bottled water only at the finish of the race. There will be no fluid stations on the course. Bring your own water for the course if desired.
