Dear Hippity Hop 5K registered participant,
The Child Benefit Fund has strived to put on a fun, family friendly community event for the past few years. We have had the privilege of seeing the joy on children’s faces when they run out to get Easter Eggs, the smiles and happiness when families meet the Easter Bunny, and have seen many individuals and families finish the 5K. There are countless pictures of 5K finishers giving the Easter Bunny a high five as they cross the finish line. We are proud to provide an opportunity for families to participate in this event together, as parents often do the Easter Egg Hunt with their children and then the family runs or walks the 5K together.
From a fundraising standpoint, the Hippity Hop 5K is an important fundraiser for the Child Benefit Fund. As one of our biggest fundraisers, we have been able to diversify what the money that is raised is spent on. Child Benefit Fund has been able to provide Christmas presents for countless at-risk youth and families, as well as provide many other opportunities for youth and families we serve. We have provided funding for driver’s training, sporting equipment, summer camps, emergency clothing, household goods, cleaning supplies, and other pro-social activities.
It is easy to see why the Hippity Hop 5K is near and dear to our hearts. It has also been critical in our organization’s ability to provide funding for the youth and families we serve. It is with great sadness and disappointment that we will not be having the 2020 Hippity Hop 5K. It cannot be overstated how disappointed we are to have to cancel our event, as a lot of time, energy, and money has been spent in preparation of the event. However, with the governor’s executive order banning large events, and our own commitment to making sure all of the participants and volunteers remain safe and healthy, there is no way we can have the event. In addition, Potter Park Zoo will be closed. Due to the amount of races rescheduling, as well as having a holiday themed race, it does not make logistical sense to reschedule for this year.
However, we would still like to proceed the best way we can, and we have decided to continue with the race as a VIRTUAL RUN. How does a virtual run work? On the weekend of April 5, 2020, instead of meeting at Potter Park Zoo, we encourage everyone to run or walk 3.1 miles on their own either outside or on a treadmill. This virtual run or walk will still allow everyone to contribute to a worthy cause, all while providing motivation to be active.
Registered participants will still receive a finisher’s medal and a t-shirt. Registration will stay open if any other runners would like to support the Child Benefit Fund’s mission of helping at-risk youth and families. Details as to how you can get your medal and t-shirt are still being worked out, and we will notify you at a later date as to how it will transpire. We will also do everything we can to incorporate the Easter Bunny for the children, who will also be receiving their t-shirts. The FREE ADMISSION into Potter Park Zoo will still be honored, provided it is redeemed by Labor Day 2020. We will be sending a list to Potter Park Zoo of all registrants, so all you’ll need to do is show up at the Zoo. If you are not interested in running virtually, you can transfer your registration into a donation to Child Benefit Fund. You will be supporting our mission of assisting over 300 families throughout Ingham County per year.
We are well aware of the life-changing implications for many people due to Covid-19. If your registration/donation will create a financial hardship for your family, please feel free to contact me directly at email@example.com.
Thank you for your understanding of this difficult situation, and we wish everyone good health in the upcoming months. We will undoubtedly be back in 2021 and hope to see you at the Hippity Hop 5K!
Child Benefit Fund
We wanted to address the status of the 2020 Hippity Hop 5K, as we’re sure many people are wondering if the event will still be held. There has been no firm decision as to whether or not the event will take place, as the precautions and information regarding COVID-19 are changing on a daily basis. We have been in contact with Potter Park Zoo, and plan on consulting with the proper authorities before deciding if the event will occur on the day it is planned. Governor Whitmer has instituted a ban on all gatherings of 250 or more people, which will also highly factor into whether or not we are able to have the event.
Of utmost importance to the Child Benefit Fund is that all participants and staff are able to safely attend. This is not a decision that is taken lightly, as we would be extremely disappointed if the event were not to occur. We are planning on exploring all avenues prior to making a final decision. Our hope is that by sometime next week we can determine whether the event can be held as planned, and if not, what alternatives can be offered. Please be patient with us as we determine what the next appropriate steps are.
