Description
This is our 3rd annual Tiny Footprints Remembrance 5K! We can't wait to see how much our event will grow from year to year! Registration begins at 9 am on race day. We will have two food trucks, a raffle prize, and complimentary face painting and glitter tattoos.
The Tiny Footprints Remembrance 5K was born out of loss. In May of 2023, Katie and Steve Harrington unexpectedly and tragically lost one of their twin babies, Piper, in utero at 31 weeks. Katie was placed on constant monitoring and bed rest until their survivor, Juniper, was safely delivered 10 days following and spent 29 days in the NICU.
From Katie: This pain was and is incomprehensible, and no parent should ever have to go through it. Sadly, the rates of miscarriages, neonatal loss, and infant loss are higher than most think, and it's something that isn't often talked about, as grieving, especially grieving a child, is a taboo subject in our culture. When we were going through this nightmare, it helped to have the support of individuals who had similar experiences, as well as support from the staff at the hospital, both in labor and delivery and in the NICU. The goal with this race is to honor our daughter and the other babies who never got to come earthside, and those who left earth far too soon. Proceeds will fund our non-profit organization, Tiny Footprints Remembrance Foundation, in order to support the Covenant NICU, the bereavement program at Covenant called Noah's Footprints, which creates mementos for grieving parents and helps with support, as well as creating "care kits" to give free of charge to help support mothers going through miscarriages. With this race, we hope to do our part in erasing the stigma of grieving and allow parents and loved ones a safe and supported space to honor their babies. Thank you so much for joining and supporting us.
