Packets for virtual participants will be mailed out within one week of the event. Participants may run their virtual event anytime. Why does the virtual event cost as much as the in-person event?

We realize that over the past year you may have participated in many virtual events that were less expensive. Cereal City Athletics is a small business, and our events are the product that we provide to the community. Just as you may pay a bit more to shop local rather than order something online, you may pay a bit more to support a local event. Because we do not order in bulk, like many of the virtual events, our costs are higher. Regardless of whether you are in-person or virtual, we have expenses to provide you with a quality event. Virtual participants get all of the same swag that in-person participants will as well. As a bonus for our virtual participants, we are shipping participant packets at no additional cost to you. 

Half Marathon:

Beginning at the brewing facility for Territorial Brewing Company, runners will make their way to the Field of Flight where they will run the runways while watching balloons launch (weather permitting) and get an up close view of the Field of Flight attractions. Runners will exit the grounds and run the streets and boulevards of Battle Creek before finishing back right where they started. The time limit for completing the half marathon course is 3 and 1/2 hours, or 16 min/mile average pace. 

5K:

Beginning at the brewing facility for Territorial Brewing Company, runners will make their way to the Field of Flight where they will run the runways while watching balloons launch (weather permitting) and get an up close view of the Field of Flight attractions before heading back right where they started to the finish.

Breakfast and Brews is an optional add-on for participants and all spectators. When registering, add the number of tickets you need for the event. Tickets for Breakfast and Brews are $10 each and include a hot, plated breakfast and a short glass of a specialty Territorial Brewing Company beer. A valid ID will be needed to receive alcoholic beverages; age on race bibs WILL NOT be accepted as proof of age.

Please note:

• While Territorial Brewing Company is an AMAZING partner, they do not have packets for pick up anytime other than the scheduled time above.
• This location is NOT where the actual race will take place on race day. The event will start and finish at their brewing facility (2815 6th Ave, Springfield, MI)

 

Event photos are available to participants to download and share free of charge thanks to our amazing community partners and event sponsors. A link to photos will be posted on the Cereal City Athletics Facebook page and emailed to participants once they become available.

It is our goal to provide our community of runners with a safe experience, but also to provide everyone with a race day experience that meets their comfort level. We recognize that there may be reasons to decide to not participate in the in-person event and vice versa. Participants may transfer from in-person to virtual, or virtual to in-person at any time, for any reason, up to the close of registration for the virtual event. 

If training has not quite gone as planned, or you decided to amp up your mileage, participants may transfer from the 5k to the half marathon (for an additional fee) or transfer from the half marathon to the 5k (the difference in registration cost will not be refunded) at any time up until the close of registration. 

Participants may also transfer their registration to another runner up until the close of registration. Please note, giving your bib to another runner without properly going through the transfer process is NOT allowed for many reasons, including for liability purposes.

We are aware that an in-person event is not a guarantee. There are many factors that may result in an in-person event including, but not limited to; state and/or local health guidelines, event partners' ability to host participants, etc. In the event that an in-person event is unable to occur, all participants will automatically be transferred to the virtual event. Information about this will be clearly communicated to participants as timely as possible. There will be no event refunds. 

We are excited to once again be partnering with our long standing charity partner for the Battle Creek Half Marathon and 5k, Talons Out Honor Flight! Talons Out Honor Flight, the SW Michigan Chapter of Honor Flight Michigan, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam Era and terminally ill Veterans in and around Southwest Michigan to Washington, D.C. (at no charge to the Vets) to visit their memorial.
