Description
We're back for year 2!
Hello friends!
My name is Emily Ojeda. For the past 7 years, I have been fundraising for an orphanage called Hogar San Camilo de Lellis. Located in Loja, Ecuador, it is a home for girls with disabilities, ages ranging from 2 to 80+ years old. Many of these girls are living with complex medical conditions, and as the cost of these bills keeps piling on, so does the need for aid from generous donors like yourself. It is run by an Argentinian Congregation, and its operations are solely funded by donations.
For the first 5 years, the primary source of income for this project came via a bottle drive I hosted the Monday after Thanksgiving. When COVID forced the world into shut-down, I had to get creative. At the time, I was training for my first ever half marathon. To stay motivated, I signed up for multiple local 5 and 10k races. That's when I realized that many of those races had the same general purpose: to raise money for those in need. With that in mind, I decided to do the same thing.....WITH A TWIST. Last year, I promised to run a mile for every $10 raised......and you guys did not disappoint! I ended up having to split miles with my coach because I was not physically prepared to take on 70+ miles on my own!
Seeing how successful the event was, I decided to bring it back for another year. There are two options for this event: a virtual race where you run wherever/whenever you'd like, or an in-person race on November 20th, starting at 9 am. I will share the official routes as the race date gets closer.
I will not be running the 5k or 10k. Instead, for every $15 raised, I will run 1 mile. The most I've ever run before is 31 miles, so please make this a challenge! In the event that the miles are more than what's safely manageable, I will be splitting them with other volunteers.
Please share this link with all your friends an family. Even if you do not want to run, your contribution is greatly appreciated.
These girls are my angels. They mean the world to me. And it would mean the world to them if you could help by sharing and donating to this campaign.
