Sleepy Eye 2020 Security Blanket Virtual 5K

The Sleepy Eye Security Blanket Virtual 5K is an amazing way to stay fit, get your new favorite shirt, all while practicing social distancing and giving back to a good cause to make a difference! As you may or may not know, the character profile of Charles Schultz's Linus was from Sleepy Eye (Linus Maurer)! We know that the familiar image of Linus and his blanket represents comfort and security; something that is very desired in these times of COVID and social distancing. Every 5K entry gets you a custom high-quality shirt that you’ll love to wear with pride, a cool finisher medal, along with raising funds to help sustain the Sleepy Eye Area Chamber of Commerce in absence of Buttered Corn Days festivities.

Register for Security Blanket Virtual 5K before July 29th, 2020. (Because of licensing we are limited to 150 t-shirts, so this is definitely a first come first get opportunity!)

Complete a 5K (3.1 miles) at your convenience any time, anywhere from August 17-23, 2020.

What is a Virtual Race?

Virtual races are a way to stay connected with one another when you can't get together for an in-person race. A virtual race is one that you run or walk on your own, at any time of day. Virtual races allow you to run the race on any course in any place you like— country road, park path, treadmill. You are the boss!

If you are in the Sleepy Eye area, the Sleepy Eye Bike & Walking Trail is the perfect distance for you to map your run and offers a fantastic view but of course feel free to create your own run as well!

What Do I Get?

Racers will receive:

Commemorative 2020 Security Blanket 5K t-shirt
Finisher's medal to commemorate your achievement
The satisfaction of raising funds for the Sleepy Eye Area Chamber of Commerce

How far do I walk/run?

5K = 3.1 miles  (The SE Trail is 3.12 mi)

Important: Please follow all social distancing guidelines and maintain at least 6 feet between you and others. Additionally, be sure to follow your own state and local restrictions about public spaces, trails, or running locations.

Who can participate?

Anyone! That’s the beauty of virtual races. Here or there, near or far – all are invited to be a part of this unique event to bring people together while staying apart and supporting a great community organization all the while!

If you don’t run, then walk. If you really don’t even like to walk, take a stroll. Skip. Lollygag. Have a picnic halfway through. This event truly is for everyone!

What do I do after I finish my race?

You will track your walk/run on your choice of tracking app. (Map my Walk, Map my Run, Run Tracker, Strava, RunKeeper, etc.) At the end of your course, you will save your info or screenshot and share that info to the Sleepy Eye 2020 Security Blanket 5K Facebook event page.

Hint: You have a whole week to complete your run which means if you don’t love your initial time, you can try again and again and again. Well, you get the picture!

Do I get a medal? A shirt? A post-race donut?

Yes, yes, and you’re on your own for that one. The week prior to the race you will receive your run info, commemorative t-shirt and medal in the mail to your specified address. A post-race donut is highly encouraged, but we cannot send you one of those without risking spoilage.

How long do I have to finish the race?

The Sleepy Eye Security Blanket Virtual 5K race period will begin on Monday, August 17th at 12:01 AM and end Sunday, August 23rd at 11:59pm.  You can run and submit your race any time during this period. You must complete the distance you signed up for within the specified race period to qualify for ranking.
